Born in Alice Springs, Northern Territory, Scott is best described as curious, adventurous and energetic. He thrives on creating new opportunities and enjoysinspiring other inventors and innovators to believe that with perseverance they too can make their dreams come true.
For a year during high school, Scott lived in Sweden as an exchange student before heading off to the mountains of Japan. He then took to the open water for eight years, sailing around Europe, North and South America with Carnival Cruise Lines as Chief Purser. So far he has travelled to over 80 countries; solo kayaked Glacier Bay in Alaska; climbed Mount Kilimanjaro for a favourite charity (Make-a-Wish foundation) and rode with his team in the Australasian Safari.
After returning to Alice Springs, Scott ran his own event management company, worked as a Correctional Officer with Juvenile Justice and volunteered for Northern Territory Emergency Services. After selling his event business, Scott headed to Adelaide with his young family, and pursued another passion as an agent for keynote speakers, celebrities and entertainers.
In his spare time Scott invented the HEG! The HEGS Clothes peg captured the attention of everyone who wants to make laundry easier, so the HEGS business just keeps evolving. Since its inception three years ago HEGS Australia has grown significantly. The HEG was featured on Channel 10’s Shark Tank Australia, won the prestigious international Good Design Award, and won Telstra’s South Australia Business of the Year award in 2015.
Scott and the team are delighted with their recent decision to move HEGS™ production from China to Australia – moving against the trend of many Aussie manufacturers. The HEG is now proudly 100% Australian made, designed and manufactured. The HEGS team now comprises a core team of eight, a 50+ manufacturing and assembly workforce, exporting to over 18 countries around the globe.
Scott’s book ‘The Aussie Innovator”, will be launched in June 2016. Scott shares the journey of how he got to where he is today. Understanding that it doesn’t matter what you do, you rarely do it by yourself. “Your team, your family, your customers and those you meet in your travels all make you who you are and contribute to your success”.
Scott is also an inspirational speaker who draws from his life experiences. From the early days growing up in Australia’s red centre to living and working across the globe, Scott tells his Australian story with honesty and humour.
